We serve with Cru's humanitarian ministry UNTO. Our hope is to express the kindness of Jesus to people living in the toughest places on earth by relieving suffering, restoring dignity, and revealing hope.

Our Journey with Cru

Our journey with Cru started in our days as undergraduate students at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. It was there, through our involvement in Cru, where God molded our hearts to align with His passions. We fell in love with Jesus, we were equipped in discipleship and evangelism, and we grew in our compassion for the lost and broken people of the world. We joined full-time staff with Cru in January of 2006.  Prior to 2006, we interned overseas with Cru in the country of Macedonia in Eastern Europe for two years trusting God to build a movement of Christ followers at Cyril & Methodius University in the capital city of Skopje. It was in our second year there that we sensed God's call to full-time missions work.  Beginning in January of 2007, we ministered to the 42,000 undergraduate and graduate students at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana for nine years.  

In the summer of 2016, we left the Hoosier state to head down to Orlando, FL for an opportunity to participate in a leadership development program for ten months at the Cru Headquarters. We sensed God's leading to stay put and then we had the privilege of serving on the leadership team of this development program called Lake Hart Stint for 6 years caring for missionaries in transition. In December of 2024 we joined the ministry of Unto. Doug's specific role is to invest in and develop the Unto missionaries so that they can be effective in ministry for as long as God calls them. René's role is to create environments within Unto conducive for growth and community. She'll also organize and facilitate outward events to invite others to participate in the mission of Unto and invest financially. Together we are trusting God for the growth of character in Unto's missionaries and the development of funding for the mission to outpace the ever expanding scope of the ministry so that lives and communities around the globe can be changed by Jesus.

More about Us and Our Family

We met as undergraduates at Ball State University through our involvement with Cru. We got married shortly after we finished our degrees in the summer of 2001 and we taught elementary education in the public schools in Indiana for 2 years​. God blessed us with two daughters before we left Indiana. Sofia was born in 2013 and Evie came two years later in 2015. We moved our family to Florida in 2016 and Caleb joined our family three years later. We currently reside in Orlando.
